Commitment to the sustainable development goals

ANAV has aligned its business plans with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) designed by the UN for 2030. Energy is a growing vector and ANAV has responded to the call to accept a leading role in this shared responsibility.

Commited to the Agenda 2030

Sustainability is an essential element of ANAV’s business culture. The nuclear power plants have opted to contribute to sustainable development by creating long-term value and, in this respect, they have outlined improvement plans that are aligned with five of the UN’s SDGs: Good health and well-being (3), Affordable and clean energy (7), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (9), Responsible consumption and production (12) and Climate action (13).

SDG 3 / Good Health and Well-Being

ANAV is working to ensure safety in the workplace and worker well-being through the LP003 process “Provide health and well-being services” and the WM007 process “Monitor and control radiation exposure”.

Reduction of events in the short and medium term to comply with the occupational health and safety goal.

Awareness campaigns on healthy practices (e.g., reduction of heart risks) for the employees.

Healthy company model certificate, where employees and employers collaborate in a continuous improvement process to protect and promote the health, safety and well-being of all workers, as well as job sustainability.

SDG 7 / Affordable and Clean Energy

ANAV has a strong social commitment to maintaining its business activity in order to facilitate the energy model transition and meet the energy demand with efficient and clean sources that enable global emissions to be reduced and climate change to be fought.

Maximise the zero-emission production capacity.

Covers around 50% of the electricity demand in Catalonia and close to 10% nationally.

SDG 9 / IndUSTRY, Innovation and Infrastructure

Processes, such as SS001 “Technology services and information systems”, SS003 “Information management” or SS005 “Maintain land, facilities and vehicles” enable ANAV to adapt its operational processes in light of external conditions or situations, with low environmental impact and enabling the application of sustainable technologies and infrastructures.

Implement a systematic process to identify and solve obsolescence.

Develop projects with the local communities to create sustainable infrastructures positively impacting society, both socially and environmentally.

Created value that translates into over 2000 direct jobs, plus the corresponding indirect and induced jobs in the surrounding area.

SDG 12 / Responsible Consumption and Production

In recent years, ANAV has develop a strong commitment to efficient use of resources, optimising waste production, promoting energy efficiency, reducing environmental pollution and implementing a certified environmental management system.

Reduce water consumption / Percentage of water recycled and reused by the organisation.

Characterise and condition historic operational waste.

Energy efficiency plans for the buildings.

Use of electric vehicles on-site.

SDG 13 / Climate Action

Additionally, ANAV has established internal energy saving and efficiency measures, investing in technologies and implementing consumption and control measures (e.g., replacement of air conditioning and lighting equipment).

Include climate change in the business culture, integrating it as a key cornerstone of the company’s strategy.

Introduce circular economy criteria into the business activities, using natural resources and raw materials efficiently, using recycled materials, promoting reuse, and reducing and recovering waste.

Commitment of the owner companies and the organisation to operating the plants beyond their original design life.
